Minister of Oceans and Fisheries

Welcome to the official homepage of the 19th IALA Conference 2018

On May 27, 2018, the curtain of the 19th IALA Conference will go up in Incheon, a gateway that connects Korea to the rest of the world, and a maritime city blessed with beautiful islands and natural tidal flats.

The 19th IALA Conference 2018 is the largest international gathering on the aids to navigation in which national, industrial, and associate members from around the world gather to discuss new technologies and new policy directions for the enhancement of safe waterways.

From the first lighthouse, Pharos of Alexandria, built in Alexandria, Egypt, in 280 BC, to the present, the lighthouse has played an important role in the safety of ships around the world. This Conference, where maritime professionals from all over the world will gather, will serve as a meaningful opportunity to discuss the historical value of the aids to navigation and future directions.

At the 19th IALA Conference 2018 under the theme 'Successful Voyages, Sustainable Planet', I look forward to discussing ways to coordinate the continuous improvement and harmonization of marine aids to navigation to the benefit of safety of navigation and protection of the environment.

I also anticipate sharing the spirit of the Incheon Declaration, which will redefine the value of the lighthouse heritage, and also creating a new milestone in the Ocean Renaissance.

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries will do our utmost to raise the status of the aids to navigation, and through this Conference, we will endeavor to leave a meaningful message to future generations by harmonizing and uniting the aids to navigation professionals around the world.

I expect the active participation and warm support of the Korean people and the people around the world as we venture into our proud trip to Incheon in 2018.
