On behalf of the Council of IALA I have great pleasure in welcoming you to the 19th IALA Conference 2018, generously hosted by the Government of the Republic of Korea at the prestigious architectural landmark Songdo ConvensiA, Incheon, from May 27 to June 2 2018
It has been a true privilege and a special honor to plan the Conference in close cooperation with the Korean Ministry of Ocean Affairs and it is timely for our four-yearly Conference to take place in a country that plays such an outstanding, leading role in a fast developing maritime region of the world.
Looking at the impressive programme, I have no doubt that the week-long Conference will greatly support IALA's mission to promote "Successful Voyages, Sustainable Planet" with the special theme "A new era for Marine Aids to Navigation in a Connected World" and secure a meaningful legacy for the future. The Conference includes a broad Technical Programme of cross-disciplinary presentations by world-class experts and the Industrial Exhibition providing first-hand viewing of the latest R&D, innovative AtoN products and services, and related exhibits of contemporary interest and future promise.
A novel feature of the Conference that promises to be fascinating will be the Heritage Exhibition, which will showcase the unique cultural significance of lighthouses around the world. I look forward to the signing and adoption of the proposed Incheon Declaration for the Recognition of Lighthouses as World Heritage.
I look much forward to greeting our membership in Inchon to the 19th IALA Conference in May 2018.
