Gwangmyeong Cave National Museum of Korea Bongwonsa Temple Hongik University Mural Street
Gwangmyeong Cave is where joys and tears of coal mining workers remained intact. It was the heart of the evolution of modern industries in Korea and also a historical site of the Japanese colonial period. It takes pride itself as being the only one cave found in the metropolitan cities.
National Museum of Korea
It is the largest museum in Korea and houses precious Korean cultural assets that tell the story of Korea's fascinating history, from ancient times to the modern era. In addition to galleries with a wide array of national and international pieces, the National Museum of Korea is the stage for a number of cultural activities related to collection, preservation, research and analysis, social training, academic publications, intercultural exchange programs, concerts, and more.
Located at the skirt of Ansan Mountain in Bongwon-dong, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, Bongwonsa temple, as the center of Korean Buddhism Taego, is a thousand year old temple with a long history and tradition. In 889 (3rd year of Shilla Jinseong Queen's reign), Master Doseon-guksa founded it at the ground of Yeonhui palace (now Yonsei Univ.) and named it Banyasa temple. It was destroyed during the Japanese invasion of Korea in 1592, and later in 1748 (24th year of Joseon King Yeongjo's reign), it was rebuilt and renamed "Bongwonsa" by two Buddhist monks, Chanjeup and Jeungam.
Hongik University Mural Street
Hongdae is a neighborhood known for its youthful and romantic ambience, underground culture, and freedom of self-expression. Unique cafes, cozy galleries, accessory stores, fashion shops, live cafes and clubs, art markets, and gourmet eateries make this a popular hang-out for local youth and a fascinating place to walk around. These unique places plus the cultural events, street performances, and festivals held here make Hongdae an area that is always packed with people and excitement. Special streets such as ateliers' Street, Picasso's Street, and Club Street are also must-go places if you're hoping to fully experience the Hongdae area.
